Puerto de la Cruz
Puerto de la Cruz is distinctly different from other resorts in Tenerife. From an accommodation point of view there are less apartments and more hotels though it’s by no means a concrete jungle. Puerto de la Cruz tends to appeal to couples who appreciate it’s relaxing atmosphere and lush gardens but because this is a “real” town there is enough to keep everyone happy. Puerto de la Cruz is really where tourism got going in Tenerife. As early as the 19th century doctors in Northern Europe recommended the climate of Puerto de la Cruz as ideal for health improvement. Today many guests still improve their health with fabulous coastal walks and red wine in moderation !
Plaza del Charco in the heart of the resort is a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by, enjoy tapas or a cafe con leche in one of the bars or cafes. On the weekend you can mix with the locals – with their children dressed up ever so smartly! Much of the authentic parts of Puerto de la Cruz have been maintained so this is a resort to have a real Spanish holiday.

Los Cristianos
Los Cristianos is a “balanced” resort with something for everyone. Certainly one of the most popular resorts in Tenerife with families and couples. Only 25 minutes from TFS airport by car and also within easy reach of the Playa de Las Americas nightlife, Los Cristianos is a former fishing village and still sports a nice harbour area as well as two excellent beaches (Playa de Los Cristianos and Las Vistas).
A firm favourite with British guests for many years now (including quite a few permanent residents) it’s easy to see why. English is widely spoken, the beaches are promenades are well looked after, and there is a great range of shops, bars and restaurants some of which are owned by Brits.
From Los Cristianos there are a great range of days out and excursions as well as pleasant coastal walks. It is possible to walk from Los Cristianos to Playa de Las Americas, the distance depends on where you are staying in Los Cristianos but from most hotels you can walk it in around twenty minutes. Another of the Canary Islands, La Gomera can be reached by ferry from the harbour in Los Cristianos.

Costa Adeje
Costa Adeje is a smart new resort, almost a suburb of Playa de las Americas. Adeje features a championship golf course, some local shopping centres and some of the best hotels in Tenerife such as the Royal Garden Villas and the Jardines de Nivaria
Some of the nicest new hotels and apartments in Tenerife are in Adeje as well as new housing which has been popular with Brits and Irish ex-pats retiring to the sun. The Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell has a holiday home in Adeje.
Bit of a cliche sorry, but Costa Adeje really is the resort in Tenerife with something for everyone.
Los Gigantes
Famed for it’s breathtaking cliffs and mountain views, Los Gigantes makes a great base for whale watching trips.
A great choice of hotel in Los Gigantes is the hotel of the same name, The Hotel Los Gigantes which is exclusive to Thomson and is part of their Gold programme (adults only) and has been for years. A fantastically well run and maintained four star, half board hotel which does so well because they have been catering for British guests for years. Available through Thomson as a package or as accommodation only if you want to “do it yourself” in which case you might want to compare flights to Tenerife.
